Overview

Teutonic Order trip is a tailor made trip which can take 1 or 2 days. During this tour you will visit Malbork and Gdansk. If you will choose 2 days option, we can visit other places like medevial castle in Gniew or beautiful old town in Chełmno. We will focus on fascinating history of  Teutonic Order expansion in 13th and 14th century in regions of Pomerania.

Gothic architecture in Northern Poland is based on bricks. Due to lack of stone in Pommerania region, brick was most durable. Teutonic Order used bricks as main building stuff. All castles, stongholds, churches and fortifications wer built in bricks. There are many magnificent examples of gothic architecture including Malbork Castle, brick churches in Gdansk, Old Town in Chełmno/Kulm or castle in Gniew.

Chełmno is one of best preserved old towns in Poland. In my opinion Chełmno or Kulm is the most undervalued destination in Poland. It takes roughly 1,5 hour by car from Gdansk do Chełmno. The way how Chełmno was established in 1233 was a pattern for most of cities in Teutonic Order which were built from the scratch.

Kulm low or Chełmno low was a legal constitution for a municipal form of government used in dozens new established Central European cities between 13th and 15th century.

During Teutonic Order trip you will explore the history of the Northern Crusades. We will see evidences how the Teutonic Knights became a Medieval power in the South Baltic region. It was in the 13th century when first Teutonic Order knights came to Poland with the task of christianizing the pagans in the neighboring Prussia. They were successful in their mission and gradually exerted control over Prussian lands. Within 100 years Prussia was covered with a very dense network of castles.
